SE JUCO JAMBOREE STANDOUTS

DESTINEY McPHAUL-5’9 Sophomore (NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE)

McPhaul is a dynamic scoring guard who puts pressure on her opponent’s transition defense. She’s a slippery guard who has a knack for getting by defenders when trying to be cut off. A lefty who can create her own shot off the dribble and can score at all 3 levels. A transfer from Temple. I expect McPhaul to end up going Power 5. One of the top junior college guards in the country.

ASYA LARA BARNES - 5’11 Junior (DME ACADEMY)

Barnes had a very impressive weekend averaging 13 pts a game in the 3 contests. She scored the ball efficiently and did it at all 3 levels. 16 PTS on Northwest Florida State, 13 vs Jones County, and made big shots vs Eastern Florida as well. Only a junior in high school Barnes is not a stranger to mid-majors as of now but expect Power 5 schools to jump in on Barnes in the next 6 months.

CELIA RIVIERE - 6’3 Sophomore (NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE)

Riviere is a highly skilled post who is light on her feet. A former Rhode Island commit who has the ability to score from all three levels. Defensively she has improved and did a nice job on Tabitha Betson. She finishes with either hand and can do it over either shoulder. Expect Riviere and McPhaul to lead Northwest Florida State this year in their quest to defend their title.

AMELIA HASSETT- 6’3 Sophomore (EASTERN FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE)

Hassett is a skilled post with great size. She is agile and can get off the floor. Her ability to stretch the floor was impressive. She competed defensively. Her frame is wiry but she competes on the glass. She needs to get stronger physically, but expect Hassett to be one of the more highly coveted posts in Region 8 this season.

VALENCIA MCFALL - 5’11 Sophomore (JONES COUNTY)

McFall showed a sweet shooting stroke and the ability to put the ball on the floor when being chased off the 3-point line. Her ability to stretch the floor and her knack to take and make tough shots were on full display. Her conditioning wasn’t the best and needs to become a little more physical. Her Freshman year was below average but expect McFall to be a low-mid major stretch 4 prospect out of Mississippi.

LA’GENESIS JOHNSON - 6’2 Sophomore (JONES COUNTY)

Johnson’s strength and physicality were on full display. She is a banger who plays with her back to the basket. A lefty dishes out contact and can play bully ball. She is an adequate finisher around the rim vs length. Johnson’s conditioning and pick-and-roll defense will be her biggest areas for improvement. Expect low-mid majors to be recruiting the Jackson State transfer.
